Sever’s Disease

Sever’s disease, or calcaneal apophysitis, is a common overuse injury in children that presents as a gradual onset of pain the the heel.  It is especially common in children that are active in sport and is more common in boys than girls.

Symptoms of Sever’s Disease

  • Gradual onset of pain in one or both heels
  • Pain is worse with activity especially with running or jumping
  • Pain is relieved with rest

How is Sever’s Disease treated?

  • Stretching exercises
  • Heel raises
  • Footwear advice
  • Rest
  • Ice
