How long does it take to recover from nail surgery?

One of the things we get asked about most often when people are considering an operation for an ingrown toenail is, “how long does it take to recover from nail surgery?”

We get it- you want life to be as normal as possible. You want to know you’re going to be able to walk, run, swim, wear your Manolo’s as soon as possible.

Like most things in life, there are no guarantees.  Healing times can vary from patient to patient. On average in takes between 4-10 weeks but in some cases this may take longer depending on how well you look after your toe and your general health

During this time you will be able to walk and carry on your life as normal. However, you will have to be careful with high impact activities (running, dancing etc.) as they may aggravate the toe during its healing stages.

For thiperiod of healing, the affected toe(s) will need to be re-dressed at regular intervals and kept clean and dry. You may not be able to wear your normal style of footwear due to the post-operative dressings.  If you want to know exactly what your dressed toe will look like, check out our video HERE.  A shoe with enough width/depth in the toe box is the most appropriate. Or, if the weather is good enough, a sandal or flip flop will leave the area free from any pressure.
