Online Podiatry consultations

Online Video Consultations

Online video consultations are now available at Footcare Scotland. It is clear, that with the current situation we will need to adapt to a new way of working. With social distancing making face to face appointments difficult, we are now using technology to bring our knowledge and expertise to you in the comfort and safety of your own home. It is very important that we keep fit and active during these uncertain times. At Footcare Scotland, we believe a foot problem shouldn’t be the thing stopping you from achieving that.

How can an Online video consultation help me?

You may be sceptical how a Podiatrist can help without laying hands on you, but you’d be surprised. We have been utilising video consultations for a few weeks now, and the response has been amazing. It allows us to easily assess you from the comfort of your own home, while advising on a whole range of foot and ankle issues. We utilise software from Physitrack and Essential Anatomy to help clearly explain your individualised exercise program as well as giving you a clear understanding of your problem. Your exercise program will be emailed to you, and you can then download Physiapp to your phone, tablet or PC. Your program will explain how each exercise is performed using studio quality videos, as well as advising how many reps and sets to complete. It also tracks your progress and pain levels so we can keep an eye on you remotely. It couldn’t be easier!

How do Online Video consultations work?

Appointments can be booked easily and quickly online by choosing a date and time that suits you. Once you have booked your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email. The confirmation email has a link to access your video consultation. We will also send you a reminder email the day before your appointment. All you need to do is to click on that link at the time of your appointment and you will be connected with your Podiatrist- simple!!

Due to the current situation I asked to postpone my one to one podiatry consultation.  I was advised that I could have a video consultation which at first I was doubtful about. I asked for further information as I had never used this type of communication for this purpose and I was sceptical.  It was so easy to use and the connection was very clear. At the end of the consultation I felt the podiatrist had a good understanding of my injuries and he was able to recommend the next steps.  This form of consultation has enabled my recovery to progress and was worthwhile.

What do I get?

  • A 45 minute online video consultation with an experienced Podiatrist.
  • A personalised rehabilitation program emailed to you if appropriate. This can be downloaded as a free app to your phone, tablet or PC and includes a studio quality video of each exercise, how many reps and sets to complete.
  • A follow-up email with an outline of advice and recommendations from your consultation.

“I had a video consultation following a few months of worsening heel pain. I was sceptical about having a video consultation and wasn’t sure how it would compare to an in person consultation but it worked very well and I’m confident in my diagnosis and treatment plan. Alastair was very thorough in his questioning and I was easily able to show him the area of pain during the consultation. The app containing all of my exercises is fantastic. It’s very easy to follow and the exercises are well demonstrated. I’m glad I went with it rather than wait for an appointment in person.”
