Verruca Treatment in Perth

Modern, Patient-Focused Treatment

Do you have a verruca or wart that’s painful, persistent or affecting your daily activities? At Footcare Scotland, our goal is to help you find the most effective and appropriate solution for your verruca, whether that’s self‑management guidance, conservative podiatry care or clinic‑based treatment.

Some verrucae may resolve on their own over time, but if they’re painful, spreading or stubborn, early assessment by a HCPC‑registered podiatrist ensures you get tailored care that helps reduce discomfort, improve function and speed recovery.

What is a verruca?

Verrucas are small lumps or growths on your skin that commonly affect the feet.  Verruca are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).  Verruca spread from person to person, and communal areas like swimming pools or showers, are a common place to catch them.  You are more likely to get infected if the top layer of your skin is damaged or wet.

Many people are embarrassed how the verruca or wart looks. Aside from their appearance, warts and verrucas don’t always cause symptoms. Verrucas can become uncomfortable or painful when you stand on them, and warts around your nails can also be painful.

How Can Verrucae Be Managed?

Treatment depends on symptoms, size, number, location and patient preference. No single option works for everyone, and no treatment is 100 % guaranteed, but effective podiatry care increases the likelihood of resolution.

Self‑Guided & Conservative Options

For verrucae that are not causing pain or limiting activity, initial management may include:

  • Reassurance

  • Advice on self management

  • Regular removal of overlying hard skin before applying treatments, if appropriate

Clinical Assessment & Professional Care

At your clinic visit, we’ll take a full medical history and examine the verruca to distinguish it from other lesions such as corns or callus. We’ll explain all appropriate treatment options, including risks, benefits and likely success rates, so you can make an informed decision.

Verruca Treatment Options We Offer

1. Verrutop® Treatment
This topical, clinic‑applied solution safely breaks down verruca tissue while preserving healthy skin. It is typically applied weekly in a structured course, often providing effective clearance for smaller or moderate verrucae.

2. SWIFT® Microwave Therapy
SWIFT is a modern, evidence‑based verruca treatment that uses short microwave bursts to stimulate your immune response to the virus. It’s fast, requires no dressings, and can be particularly useful for stubborn or long‑standing verrucae when conservative care hasn’t resolved symptoms.

3. Debridement & Hard Skin Removal
As needed, we’ll remove overlying hardened skin to improve comfort and help other treatments work more effectively.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your podiatrist will:

Ask about your symptoms and history

Examine both feet and the lesion

Explain all applicable options and what results you can realistically expect

Begin your chosen treatment or schedule a treatment plan

This approach ensures your care is individualised and evidence‑based, not one‑size‑fits‑all.

When Should I Seek Treatment?

Consider a professional assessment if:

The verruca is painful with walking or standing

It spreads or increases in size

Symptoms persist despite home remedies

You’re unsure whether the lesion is a verruca or something else

Early intervention helps reduce the risk of discomfort and improves chances of successful clearance.
